Your first agent

This guide takes you from an empty account to a working agent. You can do the first three steps in the console without a phone number.

1. Create the agent

  1. Open Agents in the console and choose Create agent.
  2. Give it a name.
  3. Pick a template. Business, Support, Medical and Questionnaire come with suggested instructions and analysis fields. Blank starts empty.

2. Tell it what to do

On the Behavior tab, set the first message and the instructions. Keep the job narrow to begin with:

  • Say who the agent is calling for, and that it's an AI assistant.
  • List what it may do, and what it should leave to your team.
  • Tell it to report an action as done only after the tool has succeeded.

On Models & Voices, choose the language, then the speech, language and voice models. Each agent runs in one language. To serve both Hindi and English callers, create one agent for each and route callers before the call starts.

3. Talk to it

Open the preview panel on the agent and choose Start preview. Allow your microphone and talk to it. Try interrupting it, ask for something outside its job, and give it a wrong answer on purpose.

4. Connect a line

Choose how callers reach the agent:

  • Your own carrier. Follow the SIP trunk guide to keep your numbers.
  • A rented number. Open Phone numbers, buy one, and assign your agent to it.
  • Your website. Follow the widget guide. No phone number is needed.

5. Record what you need

On the Analysis tab, add the fields you want from each call, such as an outcome or a callback time. On Webhooks, set a post-call webhook to send results to your own system.

6. Place a call from the API

Create an API key under Settings → API keys, then start a call. agentId is the agent's ID, and phoneNumber is the full number with its country code.

curl
curl --request POST 'https://api.in.zlicx.ai/api/v1/outbound-calls/quick' \
  --header 'x-api-key: YOUR_ZLICX_API_KEY' \
  --header 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  --data '{
    "agentId": "AGENT_ID",
    "phoneNumber": "+919876543210",
    "consentAttested": true
  }'

Only set consentAttested if the person really agreed to be called, because it's stored as your consent record. Outbound calls only ring inside the agent's calling hours, 09:00 to 21:00 by default. Numbers on your do-not-call list are refused.
